How to open flash projector on a specific screen?

1 laptop, 1 projector, and 2 screens (laptop screen and projector screen)?

  • I need help with projector setup. My boss wants to use 1 laptop and hook it up to a projector. Now she wants to be able to have the presentation running (powerpoint for example) on the projector screen and work in microsoft word on her laptop. She said someone has done it before but I cannot figure out if you need another video card or something like that? She did tell me there is a "Presentation Display Mode" that you can switch between when you hook the projector. Can this be done?

  • Answer:

Connect the projector to the video socket on the laptop. Right click the desktop and select properties, click on the advanced tab. It should show two monitors, click on the second monitor. Check the "Extend my desktop onto this monitor box" You may want to drag the second monitor to the right, left, above or below the primary monitor to better represent the physical layout of the screens. Open the presentation, drag and drop it onto the second monitor (Just click its task bar and drag it of the laptops screen to the right, left etc depending on your screen layout) Maximise it and start it playing. It will now run on independant of what you are doing on the laptop screen. All should be well unless you try to play video or high res games on both screens at once, most graphics cards will only handle video on 1 screen at a time. It takes a wee bit practice to handle running the mouse between screens but soon becomes very easy. Remember to drag the stuff back to the laptop screen before closing as sometimes the apps will re-open on the screen where they last ran, and if the projector is no longer connected they may hide on the no longer existing screen - if this does happen then go into screen properties and uncheck the extend option. Hope this covers it
