Computer screen sometimes becomes blue and "pixel?

Occasionally my (monitor) screen becomes garbled and I have to restart my computer because of it.?

  • I have a 15' HP monitor and a NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT video card, just to get the specs here. It's been happening more and more often--usually when I'm playing games, which makes it that much more frustrating. The screen freezes and becomes a garbled mess, much like a screen would should I pull a cartridge out of a SNES while playing. I have little idea what the problem could be, my drivers are up-to-date and all that...could it be the connection between the video card and the monitor? I had to get a adapter to fit the two together, could that be a problem? Any help would be great appreciated.

  • Answer:

Usually the cause of "artifacting" like you're getting is overheating, try running your PC with the case open, or with a house fan blowing into it. or even a hoover sucking all the heat from the card.
