How do i connect my VGA cable to my monitor?

Can I connect my laptop using HDMI out to a VGA monitor if i buy a hdmi-VGA cable?

  • I bought a 3 dollar cable that has both male HDMI and male VGA so I was wondering if this would work on my laptop, if I plug the hdmi into hdmi out, then vga into monitor I tried it and nothing came up but maybe im choosing the wrong options under display settings or something

    It is not possible. You would have to buy an HDMI to VGA converter box, but those are expensive and I don't really know how well they work (never used one). HDMI is a digital signal, vs VGA is an older analog signal. HDMI to DVI, DVI to HDMI, and DVI to VGA will all work, but HDMI to VGA won't work without a converter box.

Those cables are a scam. HDMI is digital and VGA is analog. It will not work and there is no setting to change.
