How to change the resolution of individual games?

How can I change the resolution of games I play past 1024x768?

  • I currently have my monitor set to 1280x1024 however when I run games it changes my resolution back to 1024x768. When I go to the options inside a game it does not give the option to use a higher resolution then 1024x768 however I'm always using a 1280x1024 resolution out of games, is it possible to play in a 1280x1024 resolution? I'm using a ATI x1550 graphics card and a 17" monitor running on Windows XP I've tried games like Warcraft 3, FEAR, and Halo 2, all which can handle a higher resolution then 1024x768

    Try going into the configuration of each game and switching the resolution. Though, sometime, the game automatically chooses the setting so, you may have to regedit for WC3. probably the game doesn't support that resolution, not all games are ready for those dimensions. however try to find out more about that on the game's website, and try also some forums. it helps a lot. good luck!!

It would seem the game is written for a certain resolution and takes over your settings. Good reason not to play games.
