http://computershopper.com/laptops/howto/replace-your-laptop-screen, is an article that tells you how to replace a broken screen. Most of the time you can identify a broken screen because the color "leaks" and you end up with something that looks like a sixties lava lamp' if you have a sharp, clearly defined fault, your problem is more likely to be your graphics adapter, Replacing those on a laptop sucks buttermilk! If your are lucky there will be a branch of SOS Tech somewhere near you. Slightly cheaper than most others but you get what you pay for. Had a friend whose "buddy" said he could repair the problem of his friend's laptop for a six-pack for his troubles. I think he drank the whole six-pack before before he started the work. result: a computer that never did work again and a pile of "extra" parts. You get what you pay for, and unless you are lucky enough to know a professional tech who will give up his spare time to help you, you are going to have to pay for it. Only good news is that while every laptop seems to have a different place for hiding the graphics adapters, it is probably a reasonably cheap fix. Most laptops don't use top-of-the-line adapters and it could be just a loose cable. Take it to the shop and get an estimate. It might be a sot less than you're dreading. Read the article about replacing the screen, just to get an idea how both complicated and simple our laptops are. I have played with "broken" laptops and ended up with some that now run and some that were beyond me. Some of these were fixable after I learned a little more. Use your search engines to find out about your machine and look for people who play around with them. If you are short on time as well as cash, beg and borrow to get it fixed, unless you can live with that green line, and nothing gets worse.
