Why isn't my monitor and display adapters on my device manager?

In device manager I have no display adapters, why?

  • I just took out the AGP video card and wanted to use the computer's original one. When I restarted the computer it recognized the resolution was low but will not adjust it. I thought I'd maybe update drivers but can't even find the display adapters to update in the the device manager. The resolution is 640x480 and the color quality is lowest(4bit). The display shows default monitor on. It does not give me any choices to change it. I clicked on advance tab below the color settings to monitor properties and click on monitor,I don't have any choices to change any settings.

  • Answer:

Because either they were removed or never put there. 2 options... update your driver in device manager or Go to windows update subscribe to microsoft update, and download all important and optional updates and when you are done, go back to windows update and do it again... keep repeating this until windows/MICROSOFT update tells you that you are up to date. You might have to restart your computer a few times... It might take a few hours to complete this task but I assure you that you will either need or really appreciatee all that microsoft update has to offer.

try to install drivers by cd.........

It's the driver, do not worry if it is not listed in the Device Manager, some onboard videos only list after installing the chipset drivers for that board. Go to your computer manufacturers website and download their driver. Most likely it will be an installation package that will unzip itself onto the harddrive, detect your video, then install it and reboot. It is possible that your video driver (being built in) will be with the chipset driver.

Definitely a driver issue. Windows will only allow a VGA resolution in that case. First try to uninstall the old drivers for the video card you removed, that might actually affect the support for the onboard card. It can not be that you have video on your monitor and there is no device for it in the device manager. Did you check in the unknown devices category? If you have a branded computer, or know you motherboard type, you can find the video drivers on the manufacturer's website.
