What is the difference between vga and dvi-d?

DVI or VGA will I see a difference?

  • Right now I have a pretty nice gaming computer, and on Saturday I'm picking up a copy of Bad Company 2 along with a new gaming mouse. However looking down I realized I was using a VGA cable. I have a 19' LCD monitor and I was wondering I would see a huge difference from VGA to DVI in games, movies and the overall quality. Basically do any of you think the difference will be worth the $15 for the cable? Thanks in advance

  • Answer:

DVI gives you a better image. I notice slight distortions with VGA that do not appear with DVI. To put it another way, DVI is a digital signal, VGA is an analog signal. DVI is clearly superior. In my opinion, it's totally worth spending the extra $15 for a DVI cable. The VGA artifacts annoy me.

I never have seen a difference either way. But if you can go DVI then use it... Unless your a gamer and using a high end video card then you won't notice at all the difference.
