Why is a laptop monitor going black?

MONITOR GOING BLANK ON LAPTOP?

  • Sometimes during working on Laptop it happens that suddenly monitor gets blank (As if someone had switched off the monitor). At this time LAPTOP power on light continues to glow as during normal operation. On pressing ENTER or CTRL+ALT+DEL also nothing happens. When Laptop is switched of manually and rebooted normal operation resumes. This happens occasionally only but it happens! so what may be possible cause/remedy.

Same thing happened with my laptop a while ago, have you spilled anything on it? If not then your lamp might be burnt or something is wrong with the cable that connects it to your motherboard.

No no. Don't reinstall the Operating system. That would be a waste of time and effort. This sounds more like a Hardware Problem. It's probably the back-light going out on the monitor. You can take it to a repair shop and see if it's worth replacing. And I would recommend getting more than One price quote.

Your laptop monitor has a setting to turn off after being left alone for so long (like an hour default or something like that when plugged in) but if you more the mouse/hit the keyboard it should turn on so that doesn't sound like it is the problem. My next thought is that it is getting confused with an external monitor. In windows 7 there are several shortcuts to change your monitor settings. Win + p or on my laptop there is a dedicated key that opens the quick monitor switch box. If you select "projector only" and don't have a projector connected, this could cause exactly the problem you are describing. However, I don't think you would do this on accident (and especially not without noticing). It sounds to me like the most likely thing is that it is a hardware defect. You should contact the company that made your computer and ask for a new one (assuming their tech support doesn't have any better ideas for fixing the problem).

reinstall the operating system or use free LINUX
