How to use analogue monitor on digital video card?

  • Hi, I've got a 32" LCD TV which I use as monitor. It has a VGA cable which normally connects to my old laptop and works fine as a monitor. Now I've built a desktop with a digital video card which has mini displayport. http://www.powercolor.com/Global/products_features.asp?id=332 How do I connect the LCD screen to the video card? I've been told a simple miniDisplayPort to VGA adaptor won't do the trick because one end is analogue and the other is digital. How do I overcome this please? Thanks.

    You have so much wrong here. Why in the hell are you not looking to get a Mini Displayport -> HDMI adapter?? Your TV doubtlessly has HDMI, so why not use it? That'll be the best way to go. And Mini Displayport has analog support (although some implementations may not, so check up, but I know at least Apple has this), so whoever told you that MDP -> VGA wouldn't work is full of it.
