Is it possible to buy a flat screen tv without a tuner?

Live TV on Laptop with Tv tuner?

  • okay so i don't have a Tv in my room yet and my parents don't want to buy me a flat screen TV cause i don't really have space for it. I mean i can afford it myself but the money is for college. I did some research and people said TV tuners work but i still have questions. does a TV tuner give you LIVE tv? do you know any tv tuners that gives live tv? when you want to watch a channel do you have to download the channel and then watch it or do you download all the channels at once? about how much space does it take up? examples. i know i have a lot of questions but it would be wonderful if you could answer... does it give you all the cable channels? and about all the downloading you have to do.

    One source is a company called Hauppauge - link provided. It's really plug and play...load driver cd, follow directions. I have an earlier version in my desktop, now useless as DTV arrived, but the HVR-950 on my netbook is realtime DTV, USB connected.

No downloading at all. Insert the card, run the install disc, plug in the cable tv from the wall, let it scan all the channels on the cable system like you do any tv and yer good to watch anything on there.

You buy it, you hook it up to your computer through a USB port, run the set up and start watching TV.

You can buy a usb tv tuner for your laptop at bestbuy (around $70) or something, you need a cable connection, antenna, or cable box receiver, w/e your trying to watch. It doesn't use the internet so it does no downloading. Just connect the cable to the usb adapter, install the software, and you can watch tv in your house just like you would in your other rooms. There is also other types of programs you can use to watch tv for free from the internet, but those are different channels, and those stream off the net so you must have a pretty good connection or it will keep lagging.
