Answer:
In this case and is the case with so many laptops the video card in this laptop is a split card, it has 512MB of dedicated memory and the rest to bring the total to over 2GB is shared with the system RAM so if you using the full 2GB of video memory, you're robbing over a 1GB of your RAM from the rest of your system. Overall I find this computer strange, they stick an i7 in it but then also add a 5,400 RPM hard drive which is downright horrible. It should at least have a 7,200 RPM drive or preferably at least a small SSD as a boot drive with a 7,200 RPM drive has secondary storage. So with that out of the way I'll list a laptop that also comes with an i7 processor but also includes a faster hard drive and much better graphics card from Newegg, only drawback is it costs $1.049.99 and has about $15 in shipping but it even includes accident protection so even if you spill water on it, drop it, etc. they will fix it.

As far as I have in my mind is Alienware a best gaming laptop. Check out the websites mentioned below
I highly suggest you donnot get a laptop in idea of making it a gaming one... By design laptops are at a disadvantage for gaming... the specs for games advance at an alarming rate which laptops have a hard time keeping up to... especially in the graphics department. and the max memory of that chipset is 512MB i believe. (it also will share your ram memory when it works harder so I think thats where the Up to memory comes from)... also this chipset isn't a very good gaming one... COD4 apparently will run only on Low. here check out this: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-310M.22439.0.html I suggest getting a desktop if you want to a gaming machine... the upgrade-ability and Superior power make the staying in one stop not a bad trade off. Also check out these...which are all very nice "gaming" laptops but if you must stick with a laptop remember its "gaming" life will not be as long as a desktop (plus if your rough with it...drop it...leave it in heat ect... it will last 1/2 as long) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=3998&name=gaming-laptop&
I'd say that's a nice laptop. I think the answer to your question is that the laptop has two 2GB sticks of RAM (two cards at 2GB each, making 4GB total). If you're not sure about the price, LifeHacker.com has regular "Deals of the day." I saw an amazing laptop a few days ago on there, but I think this one might beat it. If/when you get a laptop, I would definitely suggest getting rid of Norton AntiVirus and replacing it with a good free AV, like Avira, Avast, or Kaspersky. If you feel like paying, the AVs worth it are probably McAfee or G-Data, but I would stick with free.
I would like to recommend ASUS Republic of Gamers G51JX-X3 15.6-Inch Gaming laptop, Price: $1,078.74 . I think it's a really good choice.
