Why wont my laptop start up ?

this particular error code seems to be related to a set of security updates it results in system shadow copy service being disabled for some reason this prevents System Restore from being able to start manually starting the shadow copy servicet can sort the problem out. it sems to happen shortly after installing Vista SP1. uninstalling the updates doesnt seem to fix it ============================== snippet It's caused by disable services - I had the same problem with MS automatic updates. -Click on the pearl then type "Services" in the search box (Don't type in the quotes, of course). -Right click on Services (with the gears beside it) and pick Run As Administrator (I don't know if this in necessary, but I run everything in Vista as admin...That way programmes have an XP feel to them and actually, you know, work.) -Head down the list to "Volume Shadow Copy", double click on it and enable it if it's not enabled. -Then go back up the list a bit to "Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider" and double click on it to enable it if it's disabled. After that, I went back to the control panel and, voila - a successful restore point was created. I didn't have to restart the computer to make this work, but that might be necessary for some. ============================= read the thread
