How do I get my sound back?

How can i get the laptop sound back?

• My Laptop (Dell Inspiron 9300) got viruses so i had to reformat it. but in the process something went wrong and the sound doesn't work anymore. My laptop said "No Audio Device", so i bought a USB thing to make it work. it says 3D Sound on the USB and on control panel, it says USB Audio. it only works if i plug in headphones or something like that but it's impossible to control the volume. it's like when you put your ipod on full volume... and it won't go any softer. i don't see why the sound doesn't come out from the laptop itself b/c when i first bought it, the sound came from the laptop itself. what do i need to do to get the sound back from my laptop w/o having to use headphones?
