Why can't i play a HD DVD on my laptop?

I have a HP Pavilion DV7 laptop with a Blue-Ray DVD player but for some reason i can't play HD DVD's on my laptop. any help would be gratefull Cheers UK replys please

Answer:
unless you have an hd dvd/blueray combination player, most blue ray players only play blue-ray and regular dvd discs.
