What is a good laptop for ece engineering student?

Which laptop to buy for future engineering student?

  • I'll soon be an engineering and possibly a computer science student in university. I want to buy a new laptop before I go to college and was thinking about getting a Macbook Pro but I'm not too sure. I also heard that engineering students will be using school computers for their more strenuous computer work. Any suggestions on what I should get? I've been using an HP laptop with Windows 7 until now.

    you'll only need a powerful laptop if the application your running is a modern game. Any other powerful program wont need a powerful computer. Not unless your going to be doing some really freaky artificial neural networks, even then you are more likely to use a supercomputer.

Depends on what you would do. For a Computer Science Student, I would look for a larger screen, such as a 15.4'' screen AT LEAST, more preferably a 16.4'' or higher. You would want a high resolution, possibly 1920x1080. Yet, a Engineering Student would also want a large screen. You would want a strong Graphics Card for rendering, and a powerful CPU. You might want 6GB of RAM for rendering and 3D MAX. Intel i7 would suit you well. The Sony Vaio F Series is excellent for whatever you do. The battery is not the best, but the MacBook Pro 15 Inch is pretty poor in the GPU department. If you have the money, get the high end 15 Inch MacBook Pro, or the 17 Inch MacBook Pro. You can dual-boot using Bootcamp with Windows too, so you have Mac OS X and Windows. Your choice. Just keep in mind my recommendations. Oh, you can customize the different laptops online (Sony Vaio + Mac) but the RAM is always overpriced. Upgrade the RAM yourself - it is best. Hope this helps :)
