How do I get the volume icon back in the toolbar on my compaq laptop with windows 7?

I just got a new Compaq laptop and have windows 7 and am wondering how to get the sound icon back in the toolbar. I was trying to adjust the volume, while listening to a video on Youtube and somehow deleted the sound icon. I tried to get it back, trying a few different suggestions I found on the internet, but nothing has worked. The info. I found was not for a Compaq with windows 7. Can someone please give me some simple directions on how to get my sound icon back in my toolbar? I've never had any formal computer training and am not very computer savvy.

i ignored the rest of your post have you tried clicking the tiny arrow by your battery amount if its in there click it and drag it next to your battery icon thing another way is to go to start and click on the search bar and type in volume and insert it that way
