How to upgrade my 1 GB RAM computer to 2 GB (or more)?
-
Its a dell, really that's all I know, umm I don't know how to upgrade RAM all I know is that I don't really have enough to play mw2 with a decent frame rate, my video card is nvidia geforce 6800 256 MB video card ram, my main computer RAM is 1 gb. I know vaguely the words 'ddr 1' and '2' but I don't know what that means or what it stands for, what I have, so I'll need some help. Can I buy it at a store or ebay, how much is it, will i have to take my computer apart, etc? Thanks

The good news is that RAM is fairly easy to get hold of and upgrade, but you will need to know what kind you're using at the moment. If you give Dell a call, they'll be able to tell you what kind your computer shipped with. A point to note is that you will probably lose any warranty you have with Dell if you upgrade at home. you then need to check the RAM currently in your computer. RAM comes on chips containing different amounts. hopefully your RAM will come on one chip, which will leave plenty of space for others. Dell will tell you whether this is the case, but it's a good idea to take a look in your computer to check. Touch a radiator or something beforehand to get rid of any static (which can damage components) and then open up your case. The RAM chips sit in clips which attach them to the motherboard (the big board holding the processor), and will usually have stickers on them telling you what they are. Once you're familiar with where the RAM is and what type it is, hop onto the internet (or PC World if you must) and buy that extra 1Gb. Once you get it, get rid of any static again, make sure your computer is off and unplugged, and clip it in. Replace the cover, and boot up. Simple as that, really. If you need more, there's loads of guides on the net.

You need to find out the ram module that is compatible with your system since not all ram are compatible with every motherboard. You can find your computer model in your system information or on the case, then go to your manufacturer website and find out the ram model you need. Or you can open the computer case and look at the sticker on the ram stick and find out the model from that. Once you get the right ram, all you have to do is slide in the slot, the locks should automatically close if you put the ram in right and then bam you are done. Also it is a plus to have an esd wristband so you don't fry your motherboard from static electricity.

get this tool http://www.cpuid.com/ install cpuz...start up...it will give you all the info you need...even brand names...get into spd...it will let you know how many slots you have...so you have all the info you need...walk into any laptop store...i'm guessing you have ddr2 ram...but just make sure anyway...and if there is a vacant slot available..which you should have...place the 1gb ram in that slot...good to go.. try not to take the laptop apart by useful.. .it sure is easy...but always better to take it to a store..anyway the store you buy the laptop RAM from should do it for free...? always do upgrades in a store...unless you know everything about what you are doing with your laptop..

you need to check the compatible ram..(google) and there should be a door slot on the bottom, you also will have to buy the right module, i used ebay for mine, it should be around £20-30 :) you just un clip it when youve opend the door and then push in in the slot from a 45 degree angle, easy :D
