What's the little button on the left side of my Macbook Pro do?

MacBook battery light flashing?

  • I got a MacBook Pro 13" late 2010. It's been great to me until the other day I was using it with a good amount of battery life left. When I went into a different room, and set the laptop down and all of a sudden the screen goes black and refuses to turn back on. I figured maybe the battery died and I just didn't notice, so I plug it in. When I do plug it in, the light on the charger flashes or flickers. I attempted to turn it on but it remained off. I pressed the button on the left side of the computer that lets you know how much battery is left but none of the lights came on. I thought maybe it just needs a couple of hours to charge. When I checked it the next morning, it didn't come on. Another two days pass before I take it to an electronic store. When I get there the computer decides to start working. The only thing different now is that when I initially plug the charger in the "not charging" message comes up then switches to the charging symbol. This has never happened before now. My warranty expires in about two weeks. The computer is fine now, but should I still go to the Apple store to have it looked at?

YES. Print out your observations and take it in while you've still got a warranty, or you'll pay for whatever, and it may be major or minor, it is. Do not wait or you'll regret it.
