How do I convince my parents to let me buy a new Macbook Pro?

  • I currently have a black Macbook, which I got roughly 2 years ago. It still works o.k., but it has a lot of chipped plastic and a bent hinge, and with the release of the 13" Macbook Pro's, which have all of the features that would make a perfect notebook, like portability, strength, battery life, and good mobile graphics. The problem is money. I have worked out a payment plan that makes sense to me, but I don't think that it will convince my parents right off the bat. My parents work at a university, so they can get an education discount from the Apple store. This deal, includes a free (rebate) iPod Touch. I was planning to ask them to buy the whole computer, and then I would pay them back by giving them the rebate, and selling the iPod touch and my old Macbook on Ebay or Craigslist, which (combined with the money I have in my bank account), which would pay them back and leave me with money left. I would like to know if this plan sounds feasible. Also, I got very good grades this year (3.9 GPA) and I have a part time job to make money, mostly to pay for my cell phone bills. Do you think that any of these things could help my case? All answers are appreciated :)

It seems to me that you lack nothing. You merely need to present all the information in this question to your parents. What I mean is that if all the information in your question is true and correct, I don't see any reason why they would not agree to such a purchase. The only thing that I can think of that might help your case is if you presented all the money up front (minus the likely proceeds that you would generate from the sale of the iPod and the value of the rebate). Then they would merely be waiting for the iPod to sell on eBay and for the rebate to come in the mail.

Maybe, I still need a great convincing power to let my parents buy a pc for me. Maybe if I gave them good grades and if I find my own job soon maybe they could afford to buy me one.
