Is it safe to rely on network connection icons at the notification area?

How can I get the battery meter icon to show up in my notification area in my Sony Vaio VGN-N320E laptop?

  • I'm not sure why or even when it went missing, but I have no icon in the Notification area of my laptop. Which is a real pain when it gets unplugged by accident. When I try to customize the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties", the Notification tab has a section called "System Icons", which lists Clock, Volume, Network and Power. The first three have white boxes with check marks and show in my Notification area. The Power one is grey and I'm unable to click on it or use Alt+P to activate it. Any suggestions welcome, preferably as simple as possible, because I'm not very computer literate. TYVM

  • Answer:

Plug the cord back into it, and restart the computer - it works for me.
