How to save my laptops battery life?

I bought a Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5900 bout 6 months ago and up until a week ago i didn't realize i was able to take my battery out and use my battery pack witch i have been doing ever since. The question that i have is how to do this the correct way such as never using the battery unless i have to or use the battery once a week or whatever? What is the best way to do it? Thank you

you can just put the charger cable in when the battery is full you dont need to take it out and your battery life doesnt waste
