What do I do when there are vertical lines on my laptop screen?

My laptop screen gets vertical coloured lines!?

  • Sometimes when I'm watching a movie, or just left the computer on, a grey screen covered in colourful vertical fuzzy lines appear and the laptop then turns unresponsive. i have to then turn off my laptop and restart - this may not be such a big problem, but when your trying to work or uploading big files to the internet its really annoying! please help, thanks:)

    Yes, sounds like an overheating problem. Check the vents, maybe hoover them out or blast with canned air. check your not sitting the beastie on a soft surface that blocks the vents. If you can see the fans through the vents see if they turn, or if you can feel air being sucked in/ blown out.. sitting the lappy on your bed is about the worst thing you can do to it as the duvet will almost certainly block the vents, best to get a tray or something and sit it on that. If it keeps overheating it is likely to die completly. Good luck

you might want to first check the bottom of the laptop and look at the fan that cools the laptop processor. if severely clogged and air won't remove it try a small paint brush to knock dust bunnies loose ;)
