How can I get digital tv/cable on my Mac?

How to get money together to buy a Mac as a student?

  • I'm currently studding Computing and Applied IT in college and I plan (grades providing) to go to uni to study computer science or networking. As you can imagine on the top of my "I'd love to have list" is a Macintosh and I think that I should probably start getting money together so I can have a nice Mac on my desk when I start uni. Being a student I have little to no income, I will ask for money for my birthday and christmas (my family aren't particularly affluent, I'm not expecting more than £100). I am currently trying to get a job. Any ideas as to how to get funds to get the new computer? And which Mac would you advise I get? I will need portability so really I'm looking at the 13/ 15" Mac Pro or the 13" Mac air, but to be honest by the time I have the money I may as well wait for the next hardware update (and Lion) before I buy. No Apple haters please, I'm a Linux or Mac OS user, I don't have time for any Microsoft boxes!

  • Answer:

before you buy a computer see if the college requires a specific computer or with specific settings. Do you know what the college would even suggest. then you'll know what you have to save up for

Good question, you are a good student.

If you can't afford it, don't buy it, plain and simple. A Mac is not going to be a good choice for IT anyway as just about everything will be based around Windows. Criminy, I primarily use Mac OS, but this is just plain old friggin' reality. If you must have a Mac, hop on eBay or Craigslist and get a used one, then make a Windows VM out of a Boot Camp partition in case you have to dual boot. Virtualization doesn't play nice 100% of the time.

Sale herb lol...or rock jk why macs??? There so damn expensive lol

Just curious, why do you want a Mac so much? But yeh, Macs are expensive to afford for a college student. The easiest way I can think of is to pay with monthly installments. I'm not sure if Apple lets you do this, but you can buy on installments if you buy it from www.macmall.com Just research before you do anything though.

Why specifically a Mac? Unless there is specific software that is only available for Mac, you should be able to buy a Windows/Linux for less money, and as a college student with not much money, that would be a concern.
