How to improve the low(poor) quality image to high quality image?

How can I improve the image quality and reduce lag on my laptop?

I've got a rinky dink HP laptop, it's nothing fancy at all. I've recently gotten really into playing this RPG'ish type game online. Sometimes my laptop can't handle certain situations and it lags like crazy. Plus, I know the graphics can be MUCH better...I've since screen shots from people with more "sophisticated machines" and it's amazing. What can I get for my laptop to improve the image quality and reduce lag? I know nothing technical about computers so please speak slowly and clearly for me. And don't recommend that I buy a new laptop...if I could, I would. Thanks!!

Increase your RAM for starters. Get a newer, better video card. Do a defrag on your hard drive. Download an anti-spyware program like Ad-Aware and run it. Download Ccleaner and run it. Honestly, if you aren't too technically saavy, i would Google the things I just mentioned with the exception of the RAM and Vid card. You will need to get a professional to do that.
