Is it safe to buy MacBook Pro batteries on ebay?

School me on Mac laptops please? Looking to move from W7 to Macbook?

  • Im a die-hard Windows fan, I love it, but im looking to just try something different. I would like to get a "Macbook" laptop but I dont just want a basic laptop, I would like to carry over my video editing, and music making to Mac, as I hear nothing but wonderful things about them. Im not looking to buy new, theres no way in hell I can afford it, but Ive been looking on Craigslist, and have found a few. One is a Macbook Pro for 450$ (OBO) Model: MacBook Pro Operating System: Max OS X Version 10.5.8 Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2.33 GHz They say the only problem is that the battery is pretty much shot, it only lasts for 20-30 minutes. I have no problem ripping electronics apart and replacing things myself (Ive replaced numerous digitizers on iPod Touches, whole new front and back glass assy's on iPhones, etc). I thought I read somewhere that the battery is internal on these? But when I ran an ebay search for the battery, it looked as if it just snaps in the bottom of the computer somewhere. Anyways, id like to offer these guys around 350$ for the Macbook and see where it goes. My questions though; 1. Is this computer worthy of minor video and music editing? Good to watch movies and listen to music on? (If not, then what should I be looking for) 2. Whats the difference bewteen all the Mac OS's? Some say Leopard, some say OSX 10.5.8 like the one im looking at, some say other stuff. 3. Are the batteries internal, or on the outside like any windows laptop, easy to replace? 4. Is a Mac as good as all the hype about them?

  • Answer:

It's pretty much pointless, you won't get any performance differences. Even if you got Final Cut (which is the reason everyone loves video editing on macs) it won't run very well on a 2.33GHz processor. You're better off with your computer. Final Cut is only useful for big productions and stuff, so for minor editing it's not worth it. It'll be just as good at watching movies and listening to music as your computer is already Leopard is 10.5.8, Snow Leopard is Leopard's upgrade and Lion is the latest OS. There isn't much of a difference between them apart from layouts and compatibility. 10.5.8 is considered inferior now, and there's a lot of software which isn't compatible with it, when Snow leopard and Lion can run it. The battery is internal, and can't be replaced easily AT ALL. There's no point in even considering it because you can't buy new ones easily either. Macs are great for creative applications. If you're doing a lot of work in creative industries then they're very efficient. Pretty much everyone I know in the Design industry works with one. This isn't because we don't know anything about technology (Computer programming degree), they just suit the workflow demands of artists quite nicely, for some reason.

I have a Macbook pro and would never go back. 1) It is very good for that, you can get a wide number of programs for your mac that specialize in this, the program that came on mine edits videos amazingly. Absolutely love making them now that I have the software, it is also amazing to view videos and pictures on due to the quality of the screen. 2) I think the differences is mainly use features. It isn't hard or that expensive to upgrade now. 3) Yes they are internal and they last for hours on end, plus they charge back up very quickly, perfect for if you are on the go. 4) yes, Mac is that good. I just love everything about my mac, everything on it is completely user friendly and things are so easy and fast once you get the hang of things.

One thing you should know is that Macbooks are NOT meant to be repaired. Apple prefers their customers to throw away their old stuff and buy a new one. As such, parts are going to be really expensive. 1) Sure 2) 10.5.X is Leopard. 10.6.X is Snow Leopard and 10.7.X is Lion 3) Internal now. They're stupidly hard to replace. If this is a fairly old Macbook (doubtful from the CPU), it *might* have a panel to access the battery 4) No. They're severely overhyped. I mean, they work, but don't believe all the hype. They're really overpriced and have compatibility problems. Many people switch because they "hear good things" and then just hate the experience. If you love Windows, is very likely you'll hate the Mac.

Hi there, All three of my Macs have worked ALL day, every day. Both of or XPs FRIED their motherboards! It took 40 hours to convince the Dell XP that the NEW Motherboard was NOT bootleg! It finally accepted that it really was NEW!
