How do I connect my laptop to the internet?

  • I'm not bad with desktops and computers in general, but I've never owned a laptop before and need a little help. My mom recently gave me her laptop because I'm off to college, but I don't know how to connect it to the internet. We have our desktops wired to an at&t router, but I don't know whether I need anything to connect my new laptop to the internet, much less how to connect it wirelessly. The laptop is a few years old, so it's not the fastest around, but it'll do until I have the money to buy/customize one to my own specifications. However, that also means that I don't know whether it has any wireless "stuff" (for lack of a better word) built into it. Any help at all concerning this matter would be greatly appreciated!

    it is simple all you have to do is connect an Ethernet cord (there is a picture of one in the source box) to the Ethernet port on your laptop ( link is also in the source box) and the router. but if you wanted to go wireless you will need a wireless card for laptops (if it is built in it you won't need the card) then on the taskbar click on the network icon and click on connect to a network(if it is a protected network you will need the network key)

All you need is a wireless router.You plug the wireless router into the cable modem. It's easy to do and only takes a few minutes. You can get them at places like Best Buy for around $40. All you have to do is click on your IE or foxfire icon on your desktop and you'll be online.
