Why does my new Gateway laptop screen just go black ?

The power button stays on and then when I turn it on it says your computer has recovered from an unexpected shutdown. My laptop is always plugged in and when it turns off I am using it. It isn`t going into sleep mode because when I click a button it doesn`t come back up. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Answer:

It might be due to updates or software problem.With F8 go to System Restore.Try this utility to make computer to change settings.

i don;t know why i thought mine was from te battery so i have order a new one...but mine the ous gets stuck right before it shut s down..
