Where do I get the panasonic wireless dongle from?

Cant get wireless dongle on laptop to work.?

  • i have a dongle from my dsl provider to get internet onto a laptop, its a sony vaio. ive looked up the specs on the computer and it did not come with wireless. Will the dongle still work? When i hook up the dongle it says connected...but how can it connect when there is no wireless in the laptop? lol. im following the directions on the dongle and it is asking for a wps number which my modem from my dsl provider does not have...so i dont know what the he** its talking about. i do know its not connected..lol. Also my provider told me i do not need a router....my modem is actiontech modem with an antenna on it. They are saying its a modem/router combined...never heard of such a thing. Any straight forward answers would be nice. No BS answers.

  • Answer:

I believe you have a filter for the ADSL line. You put that on "other" phones that the phone-line is using. The hookup should be * phone line hooked up to the router\modem and a CAT5 or 6 cable from the laptop to the router\modem. If the laptop has no built-in wireless then it won't use the wirless connection from the router\modem. PERIOD

If your laptop has wireless then you do not require a USB dongle. The wireless dongle only makes a computer Wireless if it doesn't have a wireless adaptor. The WPA key is a password to allow your computer to connect to your Wireless router. If you use both the dongle and your laptops wireless adaptor (internal) then they will conflict with each other so only use one of them. Most laptops have a switch to turn on or off the laptops internal wireles adaptor. Which operating system are you using? Windows XP vista etc An ADSL modem/router is able to pickup the broadband signal and allow multiple users to conenct to it. A single modem will pick up the broadband signal and is only designed to work with one computer via a cable. A router (non ADSL modem) will not connect direct to your telephone line and will need to be linked to a modem in order to work as only a modem can desipher your broadband signal. So basicaly your ADSL Modem Router is kind of an all in one solution. EDIT: Will your broadband be provided down a standard telephone line or a fibreoptic cable? If your on a standard copper line (most likely) then i would reccomend a simple wireless ADSL Router such as the Netgear 834G pretty cheap too. If your on Cable (fibreoptic) then you will need a CABLE wireless router, however your ISP will supply you with a standard modem regardless to access their network. Cable Routers have a WAN port which you use an ethernet cable to connect to the CABLE modem. http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.eastservebroadband.com/images/Linksys%2520WRT54G%2520back.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.eastservebroadband.com/wireless.html&usg=__qU_emh4pysxx_MpJuKBPE2YkZUw=&h=328&w=425&sz=51&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=4aQKDVlpnrsteM:&tbnh=125&tbnw=163&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcable%2Bwireless%2Brouter%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1287%26bih%3D629%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=120&vpy=174&dur=93&hovh=197&hovw=256&tx=153&ty=109&ei=zariTM_cKMTOhAe625HkDA&oei=zariTM_cKMTOhAe625HkDA&esq=1&page=1&ndsp=21&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0 I'm sure you will be on a standard line so this is how simple it is to setup an ADSL router (netgear 834G) Connect the power and the adsl cable to your phone line, make sure EVERY telephone point has an ADSL filter plugged in (you get these with the router x2). Next connect your laptop to the ADSL router via an ethernet cable (you get one in the box). open internet explorer (firefox or whatever explorer you use) then type where you enter the web address http://192.168.0.1 press enter. Next you will be presented with a username and password. Username: admin Password: password then click ok Click on wizzard setup and enter the usernames and passwords provided by your internet provider. Next click on "wireless settings" and choose WPA security, enter a passphase of your choice and save it. Not unplu your cable from the router and connect to the ADSL router via wirelss, you will be prompted for a key, enter your passphrase that you chose and save it. All done!! By the way to check to see if your laptop is wirless without the dongle go to control panel, connections and it will have your wireless adaptor in their if you have one. You will defo have a LAN connection.
