What happens when your laptop runs out of Hard Disk memory?

  • So I am using my sister's old laptop that she used when she first went to college. Its an old laptop, and now the hard disk's memory is getting full. I only have about 5.84 MB. What will happen when it gets full? And what can I do to make the memory go up again?

    nothing will happen, u just wont be able to copy anything to it, u gotta delete some files and you'll have some memory

When it gets full you can't save anything or update anything because there is no room to put the new information. To make more space, just uninstall unused programs and delete old files that you don't even look at any more. Then download the program called bleachbit (http://sourceforge.net/projects/bleachbit/files/bleachbit/0.9.2beta/BleachBit-0.9.2beta-setup.exe/download) to completely clean the hard drive. You can select what you want it to clean and what you want to save. Lastly, defragment your hard drive (by going to the start menu and searching "defragment") Doing all this should open up a few GB at least :)

Well you can run a disk clean up and that gets rid of a lot of old junk files that are no longer needed. Also you can go and buy a spare external hard drive that will cost about $75-90 dollars depending on the size that you would want. Nothing really bad happens as you hard drive gets filled up you still don't want it to become fully filled all the way to the top.

Computer will be real slow until it just stops.I assume you talked about free space on hard drive..If computer has no RAM it will freeze as well.
