What does it mean when lines are on your flat screen?

What could these vertical lines on my computer screen mean? Acer aspire one netbook?

• there is a huge white block covering about 70% of the computer screen. The lines are very small, red, green, yellow, blue, and some days they're all just black. everything still works, but it's hard to use since most of the screen is covered. It's an Acer Aspire One 532H netbook. The screen is not cracked at all from what I can see, and I don't hear any loose parts if I shake it a little. Thank you in advance for your help. I don't remember exactly when we bought this one, but the warranty expired in June so its over a couple years old.

  OMG this is werid because this happened to my friend last year . the LCD ribbon cable and it needs reseating or replacement. Graphics/Display Starting To Go Bad...?Lines in the monitor usually preclude problems.. STart by checking the screen resolution to make sure it's correct. Next, look for an updated driver and install it.. It can sometimes rectify the problem for a while.. I've got an old Windows ME computer which has good days and bad days. The graphics are headed out... Some days it will start just fine.. Others, it looks worse than your pictures.. Multiple colored lines.. Parts of the screen turning black.. Hope this helps.
