Dell monitor screen blank?

My Dell D600 Screen keeps going blank. Will replacing the monitor or switching something out work?

• I have a Dell D600 Latitude. For a while, the computer would randomly throw up a black screen, and wouldn't come back on unless I let it sit for a while. Now, I'll get 2 seconds of screen time for each hour or so I let it sit. A. There are files stored on there that I need, and B. Frankly, it's the only computer on which I have successfully been able to set up port forwarding for my router. The computer is 5 years old, and has been used pretty hard. The right hand hinge broke some time ago. My questions: 1. Is this is a problem that would actually be solved by just getting a new hinge? 2. Is this something I can solve by getting a new monitor? And if so, is that something a novice could do by himself? 3. If I buy another computer of the same model, is there a part I could switch out that would bring with it all the old computer's memory, program, static IP address, etc? And again, novice here. 4. If none of these are possible, how I can get all the files off of my old hard drive? I would very much appreciate any help that anyone could give. Thank you for your time.

  No worries, you can definitely get all your files out. What you can do is try to get into the any computer store or you can do it yourself. You can buy a hard drive external case that is compatible with your hard drive (say IDE plugin or SATA). Then you can connect your external harddrive into new computer to gain access to all your files. Or if you do change computer you can insert your hard drive internally and the window will still read it. I don't recommend you buying the same model, you should get a new computer that is at the cheap price range but much better specifications. Before buying it, you should check with the seller whether it is compatible with your router by testing it etc.
