Why does my mouse pointer disappear?

Mouse pointer freezes, buttons still work.?

  • My father has loaned me a "webbook" (running on windows XP Sp3) the little netbook thing carphone wearhouse used to sell, he has not used in months, maybe even a year or so, he said the touch pad was not very sensitive from new but did kind of work. He always used a wireless USB mouse and had no problems using it that way. Now that I have it the touch pad will not move the mouse pointer, the left/right buttons work as normal. I plugged in a cable USB mouse and it looked like that had cured it until, I stopped moving the mouse, left/right, wheel and click on wheel still work as normal, if I unlupg the USB muse and plug it back in the pointer moves again and continues to move as long as the point is not left still for more than 1-2 seconds. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ What I have tried so far.... Check mouse drivers in control panel including roll back and update, no joy there. Blue FN key with touch pad/mouse toggle key, no effect. Plugging mouse into all three of the USB ports, same issue regardless of USB port used. Removing battery and power supply and leaving it sit for a while. Checked for but did not find any system restore points to use. Looked in device manager, it said all was fine. Tried the windows update drive options but it said the installed drivers were fine. Went into the windows "help" (or lack thereof) and realised my 3 year old girl could have advised me better. Restore factory settings is the very last option as it's my father webbook an he is not sure what data he may lose so as I say this would be the be the very last resort. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ For watching video or surfing the net it having to re-plug the mouse each time I want to move the cursor annoying but survivable, but when tryin to use goggle sketchup it is a killer, I'm pretty stumped so any help or possible solutions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Answer:

A mouse does not last long as the fine wires inside break easily, try a new mouse.
