How do I reset my settings?

My MacBook won't charge, and I was wondering how to reset it to factory settings...?

I had a dell and I just traded it to my grandfather for this MacBook that was bought from the school I go to. My dell had the same problem where there is absolutely NO battery left and it has to be plugged in to use it. So I reset my dell to its factory settings and it started charging again, I was wondering how to reset my MacBook, I don't have any CD's, how can I reset it?
