Help with laptop problems, please?

Telling difference between faulty wiring in laptop and more serious problems? Help please and thanks!?

  • I have been having troubles starting up my laptop recently. It is a Toshiba laptop running Vista. Now, when I try to turn it on, it only works about 50% of the time. If it does start up, it makes a humming noise for longer than usual, and then makes a clicking sound (the sound that usually appears when I turn my laptop on or off) twice. I fear that I'll have to try to reinstall Windows, but it might just be faulty wiring? Is there a way to tell the difference? Can someone help based on the info I have given? If it is faulty wiring, where should I take it in to be repaired? If it's the computer itself, can I reset it without a disk of some sort? Also, I AM NOT buying a Mac or any new computer. It is not in the budget.

  • Answer:

Sounds like your harddrive is the problem. From what you just mentioned to me it defo sounds like the Hard drive honestly. Humming and clicking is never a good thing, and usually related to the hard drive trying to look for something. Bring it back to the store where you bought it from and ask them to examine it. I hope this helps but sounds like the usual HDD symptoms. Cheers Note: Don't do it yourself unless you wanna break your warranty seal and your are un-experienced. - For your last update: Thats defo the Hard Drive !! Adrien
