Hook up laptop to TV?

When I hook my laptop to my TV the picture shows up on the TV but my laptop goes blank?

  • For weeks I was hooking my laptop up to my TV with a VGA cable and there was no problem with the picture on either the laptop itself or the TV screen. Then one day I hooked it up and the TV screen still shows everything and works perfectly, but my laptop went completely blank. If I pull the VGA cable out, then the picture comes back on the laptop. For some reason now I cannot show a picture on both anymore, but to my knowledge no setting has changed or anything like that. I can't even find where I WOULD change these settings! I really need to be able to see the output on BOTH the laptop screen and the TV so can someone please help me? Thanks so much in advance!

    you have to his FN F5 until they both work. it may not me FN F5 on your computer but it is on mine. it is the picture of a computer slash a tv or empty box. hope this helps. GL

It happend to my dad too. It's normal you just use the mouse and look at the T.V. Completly normal.
