Computer problems - freezing?
-
I was just wondering if someone could help me with my computer problems. about 3 months ago my computer (Dell XPS M1530 - Vista) wouldn't let me login and open anything, after countless attempts at safe mode and diagnostics tests, it finally said i had a hard drive failure of some kind - can get info if needed- but a few days later it let me log in and never had anymore problems until this weekend. The computer would freeze after about 3 minutes after logging in. I could start the computer in safe mode and it would work for a while longer, sometimes not freezing and sometimes freezing after an hour. After a few days of googling problems, and downloading scan programs then eracing them off my computer so they wouldn't interfere with the newer scan programs i downloaded - nothing came up as a problem. After giving up, i moved my music and few word files to friends hard drive and reset my computer to factory defaults, obviously deleting everything off my hard drive, i re-downloaded all the windows updates and computer worked for about 24 hours then upon trying to download another windows update the computer froze. Once again the computer freezes shortly after start up. What kind of problem is my computer having, i assume i need to buy a new hard drive to fix it but i just wanted to make sure. Thanks

Answer:
The Windows operating system constantly refers to the registry to get information about all of the components such as hardware and software which are installed on the computer. The registry tells Windows what to do and how to access the various programs, files, and processes. However, the registry can contain bad information which sends Windows off doing useless tasks or running unneeded routines. Sometimes errors occur including the freezeing. Other times the system slows down. Because of the sheer number of factors that can affect the registry, there’s no one size fits all approach. You can’t just go into the registry and remove the bad information because it’s nearly impossible to decipher which information is good and which information is bad. That’s a job better suited for software. I should like to commend Registry Easy http://make-computer-run-smoothly.com to you ! You can try ! Good luck!

check to make sure a mouse hasn't chewed up your cable, and that the cable inside is connected firmly to the drive and the mainboard (being careful not to flex the mainboard when your doing it) but it just might be time to purchase a new drive. However you can slave the old drive in the system as a secondary drive, and if it ever works again you can quickly transfer the data onto the new drive :) I had a 250GB sata with my kids baby pictures on it. ended up tossing it in the freezer for two months till the bearing inside reseated itself, then furiously transfered the data off before it warmed by up.
