Why is the maximum memory usage 512?

R.A.M. usage?

  • ive download a widget to check my ram usage, when i close out of all my programs that are running, its at about 70-80%, anyideas how to free up any memory? (i only have 512 mb)

  • Answer:

Well, everyones advice is correct. Windows does take a lot of RAM, especially if your OS is Vista. I was told by Gateway that the 512MB that my computer came with was pretty much just enough to run Vista and browse the net. Not very quickly I might add. RAM isn't all that expensive anymore, so I would definitely up it to 1 GB minimum. I will give you a link to the site where I and all of my family and friends go to to buy all of our memory related merchandise. http://www.4allmemory.com/index.cfm

Downloading widgets is one way to take up RAM. What a paradox. You should be aware that their is a place on your computer to check how much RAM your using. That beats downloading something that's going to take RAM to check your RAM.

Delete the widget. It is probably using all your resources. Also, if your computer is relatively new, you need more than 512MB for it to run well. Upgrade your RAM.

Windows is going to use a lot of your memory even when no other programs are running. You really need more RAM (About 1 gig minimum)
