What does vga output mean?

My dell inspiron one 2305 vga input does nothing when I connect another device output vga, why?

  • If I connect another pc through the vga connector output to the vga input of the 2305 nothing happens, what am I missing? I read in the manual that the VGA is optional, what does that mean? I also used an adapter from dvi (mac) to my 2305 hdmi , connected also nothing happens, is my 2305 defective at the video card? or am I doing something wrong?

  • Answer:

You might have to go into the video card settings and look for an option like, cloning or to extend the monitor as in a duel monitor setup. Cloning will only replicate the screen you already have.

What you have on laptop VGA is OUTPUT not input. It can be used to connect external monitor,or TV.Laptop inputs mostly are USB ports
