Windows explorer stopped working in vista?

When my computer starts up to the desktop, i get "windows explorer" stopped working, help..?

  • I cant click anything else besides the 'windows explorer has stopped working' box. It gives me two options, search online for solutions and restart and the other option is restart. They both do the same thing, close then it comes back up again. How do i fix this problem? I am using Windows 7 ultimate, upgraded from windows vista home premium, both 32 bit.

  • Answer:

Something is wrong with your registry so it's unable to process certain things that's why it stops working. Perhaps damaged or missing registry files. Watch both these videos (in order of listing) and it should fix the problem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zaj8NMYUE4k http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_PTWnzGHw0

Before windows start to load, press f8 and then go to safe mode and install norton internet security anti virus to scan your system for virus. After that use system restore if it doesn't work.

I'd reformat if I were you. If you don't want to lose data you should try Safe Mode.
