Will this fit in my dimension 9100?

What Hard Drive Should I Buy For My Dell Dimension 9100 Desktop Computer?

  • A friend of mine gave me a Dell Dimension 9100 that had a shot hard drive, and now I have to buy a new one. I measured the size to be approximately 4" wide by 1" tall by 5.8" deep, but am not sure which to buy. I looked around and found one I liked, but I don't know if it's gonna work. Anyway, I want to spend around 50-75 dollars, and prefer if I can buy it at BestBuy (i have a gift card) and only need about 500gb - 1.5tb. The last one that I had whose ground pin did not match up was a WD 250gb blue hard drive, so please, if you can help, let me know. Thanks, guys! -Chris

  • Answer:

According to Dell you have a P-4 computer. These do not support a 500GB or more hard drive. 250GB is the max. for Sata. One that works well for these is the Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3250318AS. Your system does not read and write at 3GB, it does at 1.5GB. This drive allows that speed without jumpers. Your WD drive does require the jumpers which are not included unless you purchase a retail package. Used this drive in many repairs. Almost plug and play except for the OS. Newegg has it below your budget, link below.Hope it helps.
