What are minimum specs for new PC?

  • I'm buying a new PC and need help re specs. First priority is SPEED - I want it to respond quickly. I will use it for email and internet and don't play games and don't do much with music. I am starting to build a website with Intuit and plan to create greeting cards so want whatever is needed w/PC for that. I was told to be sure PC has graphics card - is that right? The PC I'm considering (Compaq Presario CQ5700F) has 170u Processor, 2GB RAM (expandable to 8) and 500GB hard drive, plus Windows 7. Is that sufficient?

    If you're not playing games, the integrated video card built into all modern PCs is sufficient. The 170u processor is fairly weak - pretty much like a netbook in performance. Go with this consideration! Go go go! it's good enough as minimum....

A ten year old PC is capable of running plenty fast enough for email and net browsing. Your internet speed is determined by what internet service package you have, not the PC. That PC should do anything you are asking in your question.

That is a slow processor, not really much RAM by today's standards, and the bare minimum of disk space (which admittedly is enough for what you need). Yes the computer is sufficient, certainly fine if all you're doing is making websites and greetings cards, but it is not a fast computer. You will notice it "grind" a bit when multitasking. And if you plan to use any special effects when you make the graphics for your greeting cards, expect to do quite a bit of waiting. You could probably find faster computers for the money as well.
