What is a good, well priced pc to buy?

PC processor and graphics upgrades?

  • I have an Acer PC, which currently has an ATI HD3450 graphics card and a 2.6GHz dual core processor. Both of which I would like to upgrade. I am looking at an ATI HD4850 graphics card and some kind of quad core processor, maybe the new Intel i3 or something. The PC also has 3 GB RAM which I am considering upgrading at some point in the future to 4 GB but not yet as according to task manager it is the processor that is struggling and peaking at the moment. I am intending to use it for Football Manager 12 and want it to run the 3D match engine really well and handle the game with pretty large databases, multiple countries and leagues while still running quickly. I also use the PC for all my films and usually have either VLC or iTunes running in my second monitor while playing so I want it to handle this seamlessly. My main monitor is my 32" TV via HDMI cable, the second is just a little standard monitor I have underneath it. I am unfortunately still running Vista which I would like to upgrade at some point but I imagine it being too time consuming and too much hassle switching systems without losing what I have on the HDD and all my installs. Plus it looks a little expensive at the moment. My questions are, would I be able to just do a straight swap? Is it a simple install? Are these the best upgrades to buy? Will it make a significant improvement? I have considered buying a whole new machine but I'd prefer to spread the cost and upgrade gradually rather than splash out all in one go. Having said that, any suggestions on reasonably priced PC's with good specs are most welcome, although I am only looking to spend a couple of hundred quid. Maybe up to like £400 for a ready made PC with quad core processor, good graphics, 4GB RAM and Windows 7. I have been browsing refurbished PC's around these prices and specs but none seem to bring it all together, there is always something missing.
