My DVD drive isnt working?

The light isnt flashing and when i press the open button nothing happens, ive forced it open by putting a paper clip into the force eject hole and ive also checked the SATA cables in my computer and they all seem to be connected. its been fine for a month but now it just stopped :/ PS: XP pro SP2 64 bit

Right click on your "my computer" icon and go to properties. Hit the hardware tab. From there click device manager. Open the plus sign next to DVD/CDROM drives. Right click on your device and select "unistall". Restart your computer and it will be detected again. Hit up the manufacturer's website and look for a "firmware" update. That might make you happy. If not, I would start shopping for a new drive.

could be a broken drive, just replace it, a good place to buy a new on is tigerdirect.com or newegg.com, If you want to know how to install just youtube it, there are plenty of vids on youtube that should help.
