Can a VGA cable record your tv to your computer?

How to connect TV to computer using a VGA cable!?

  • I recently got a new tv and want to connect it to my computer as a second monitor. On my computer there is 2 VGA ports and a DVI port. (I have a DVI to VGA adapter) I also have 2 VGA to VGA leads. I have managed to connect my computer to both screens individually but the second VGA port and the DVI (with the adapter) don't seem to work. Is there anything I am missing or is there any way of fixing this or even just being able to locate the problem? Thanks for any help in advance.

  • Answer:

What operating system are you using? If its Windows 7 you can right click on the desktop and go to personalize to change your disply settings. Click on extend the disply to second monitor. You may need to lower the resolution too, depending on what your TV supports. Good luck!

You asking about a cable. The point here is your actual video card. Make/model/driver etc is the information we need in order to diagnose and offer a possible solution. I am familiar with ATI catalyst manager. There are drivers that offer additional functionality. If it was me I would see if Default HDTV, or something similar, is in the drop-down monitor list. If there is only your monitor then of course you need to find out why. I am able to choose different types of resolution er whether it can handle 480p or i or 5xxp or i 720 p or i 1080 etc. If I have that on the wrong one it will either be completely garbled or not even show. I have also changed around my connections unplug the original monitor and plug your TV into that dvi and then the monitor next. I just switched until I heard the all important BING, absolutely no relation to the search engine, and then made the necessary adjustment. There is also a force TV detection. There is the option for wait for v-sync and other options that I can go through in order to troubleshoot any issue I face. I can choose whther the refresh rate is at default or I can choose that for myself. Most monitors will offer an out of range error on the monitor if the resolution is set too high/low, as opposed to no sync. I can go into my display properties and make my TV my default monitor by simply dragging to over to 1 or with the drop-down menu. There are many fixes that are possible but what you have as far as a graphics card and driver installed is the info necessary.

The settings for multiple monitor support are always in the Catalyst Control Center (for those using ATI-based video cards) or the NVidia Control Panel (for those using Nvidia-based videocards). You will have to tell us more about your video card/graphics chipset or computer model (if it's a prebuilt PC) if you want more specific information.

What graphics card are you using and what operating system are you using? Windows 7 does this for you with a simple click and depending on your graphics card it should also do this quite simply for you.

Should work automaticlly, check the processors running correct for this, right click on desktop, graphics options, this will open the details you need to change depending on your processor
