What kind of desktop computer should I get?

  • I just bought a new "Samsung-51" Class / Plasma / 1080p / 600Hz / HDTV-PN51D530A3 TV. I use a computer as my only source for my TV. I do everyday computer tasks. For entertainment I watch DVD’s, torrents, online streaming, etc. I rarely play games. I do a lot of multi-tasking and wouldn’t consider anything less than a quad core. I also have had issues in the past with my HP pavilion giving me a black screen and not coming on the 42” LCD TV I currently have. That has something to do with the hibernation issue. I want the new computer to have a graphics card that will work the best with the new TV, as well as at least a quad core processor, plenty of ram and memory. I can’t afford to go over $700 max. I don’t know if I should do a custom build because it seems there are not many desktops available that are not all in ones or HP’s. Asus has always worked well for my needs but again I can’t find one to fit my needs. Gateway is another brand I trust. I really want this set up with the desktop and the TV to work as well as possible together. Please provide as much information as possible. I greatly appreciate your time. Thank you.

    A custom build is really the way to go. It's a lot easier than it seems. You'll get exactly what you want and for the lowest price possible. But if you don't have the time or feel overwhelmed by the idea of building your own computer, I can build one for you. Find a local small computer store that is willing to sit down with you and sort out your needs. You may pay a bit more, but the support and advice you should get will be more than worth it. It is always nice when you have a problem or question to be able to speak with someone face-to-face, instead of speaking to someone in India, or get put in the endless 'let me transfer you to the department that handles that issue" loop.
