Huh? F8, system restore.... That isn't gonna happen. Maybe this computer needs a restore, maybe not, but you aren't going to do it without either a "MacBook Restore" DVD that is the same version as the one that came with your computer (Apple makes specific system DVDs for specific computers) or a retail version of OS X Install DVD that is the same version of OS X or newer than the one that came with your computer. First and foremost: Open Disk Utility (in the menu bar: "Go" and "Utilities"). Verify the hard drive. If it finds problems, you have two choices. 1) Try a UNIX application called fsck. It is not as robust as Disk Utility but it could fix problems. Restart and hold command and the S key. After the grey Apple logo, you should get a black screen with white text. At the command-line prompt, type /sbin/fsck -fy (NOTE: when typing in command line, observe spaces, ignore case) Press "Return" After it checks things, you get one of two final answers: "The volume appears to be OK" or "***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****. If the former, type reboot and press Return. If the latter, type /sbin/fsck -fy Press Return. If it doesn't finally say "appears OK", you need a more robust repair utility. 2) Get your hands on an OS X install disc, boot to it, select language, open Disk Utility from the "Utilities" menu and repair the hard drive. Problems with MySpace, don't know enough details to go after that one. Just leave it for later. It may get sorted out after disk repair or Software Update. Java updates come from Software Update, not from a directly selected download. Open Software Update (under the Apple menu) and see if it finds any updates. Install them, restart, use Software Update again, restart, use it again... until it finds no more updates. Could be one round, could be four. Apple doesn't offer GarageBand for download. It is on the iLife DVD. Install it from there.

Other answers

You don't need your disks to do a system restore. When you boot up, press F8 to get to the start up options. Pick Safe Mode, and when you log in, it should ask you if you want to System Restore. Hit yes, then follow the directions on the screen.
