You could format your hard drive, then do a new install, but this will mean you will LOSE ALL YOU PERSONAL FILES, so don't unless you're sure. The reinstall Windows.

Situation: Hard drive 1 - windows instillation 1 Hard drive 2 - windows instillation 2 Log onto windows instillation 1, copy all important files from hard drive 2 and save them on 1. Then. reformat 2 completely and put all important files from 1 back onto the reformatted 2. Next, turn off, physically disconnect 2 from the computer, pop in CD and format 1 before installing a fresh windows. Finally, turn off fresh windows on hdd 1, reconnect cables and turn on again. This would leave you with a OS disk and another with your other files, from which you can copy back onto 1. I can't think of a second Situation atm, but send me an email ([email protected]) for more help. Good Luck!

you need to modify the boot.ini file. here are some instructions. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/289022

Assuming you are reinstalling from a CD rather than a recovery partition on the same disk, I'd recommend wiping the disk clean and starting over. Go to http://www.dban.org, downloading the ISO or boot floppies and let it run a pass over your disk. I suspect the problem was that you accidentally picked an upgrade install rather than a clean install. Hard to say for sure. At any rate, the disk will have nothing recognizable on it after a dban run, so start the installation from there with your install CD as before.

Take your system to any vendor this is right way unless ready for losing your hard drive
