What is 6MB L2 cache?

What's the difference in these CPUs?

  • I'm comparing a couple processors for a new computer I'm building but I'm confused somewhat by all the new technology that's out now. I'm looking at an >>> Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core with 1333 MHz FSB and a 12MB L2 Cache for $282.99 <<< and a >>> Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 2.8GHz Socket P 35W Processor with 1066MHz FSB and a 6MB L2 Cache for $559.99 <<<. My Questions: Why is the Duo more expensive than the Quad Core? Wouldn't the Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz effectively (2.83GHz per core x 4 cores) 11.32GHz be better than the Core 2 Duo T9600 2.8GHz effectively (2.83GHz per core x 2 cores) 5.66GHz? Plus the Core 2 Quad has MORE FSB AND TWICE the L2 Cache!

  • Answer:

well the dualcore is a mobile processor thats why it cost more. unless youre upgrading a laptop you cant use it. get the quadcore.. and since it seems like you have little knowledge in this subject (no offense trying to help) i suggest you make sure the motherboard is compatable with the processor also

as washd said, the core 2 Duo is a mobile processor. PS: A Quad core at 2.83ghz does not equal 11.32ghz.
