Can i copy my xp os from one hard drive and put it on new one?

Ok, i had a vista that decided to go "boom" :P now im getting a new hdd but dont have the vista install disk :/ i do have an old, peice of junk xp that i never use. i was wondering if i could copy the xp os files onto new hard drive for gaming computer, then just wipe it so as to avoid legal confrontaions?

no, when XP is installed, it takes an inventory of all the computers internal components, and if the components don't match when booted, then XP just won't load
