What is a perfect computer for games such as Half Life 2?

Getting Half Life 2 To Work?

  • Alright so I already asked a question based off of this but I didn't get an answer so I will ask it more clearly. I bought the Orange Box for the PC and for some reason I cannot play Half Life 2, most of the other games don't work either but i am mostly concerned about HL 2. I've gotten through the first level somehow working through a whole lot of freezing and constant choppy gameplay but i am now sick of it. My computer is a 2006 Dell Inspiron 530 and it should be able to run this game. Occasionally when the game freezes i get a pop up saying: "The display driver igfx has stopped working and has successfully recovered" i'm pretty sure this means i need to update my driver software ... which i've constantly tried, i went to dell tech support to find the right driver software and i have no idea what the right thing to install is, i am soooo frustrated. If anybody would like to help me, could you either break down what my problem actually is, or tell me what the right driver to install is, THANK YOU!

how much RAM do you have in there? suggest you visit Crucial website, install their system checker and see what that recommends. A review of this PC says that you should have a GeForce 8600 GT - which if true means that you certainly should have no problem running HL2 - I used to run an old 6600 card which was fine. I see that Dell also do a 8300 GS option - which is not a good move for you (see review in 2nd link below)
